Weenen Game Reserve

Weenen Game Reserve - Game Reserve in Weenen

Description

Wild and undulating African savannah, thornveld valleys, spectacular river gorges and distant mountain peaks form the backdrop for a visit to Weenen Game Reserve. The Bushmans River flowing through a deep-cut gorge, rich valley bushveld vegetation and the diversity of flora and fauna established Weenen Game Reserve as KwaZulu-Natal’s favourite Midlands wildlife destination.

An excellent road network and guided and self guided trails allow visitors to view a variety of wildlife species including white rhino, giraffe, zebra, kudu, ostrich, common reedbuck, grey duiker, bushbuck, steenbuck and mountain reedbuck. Over 250 bird species have also been recorded.
Guest facilities include a game-viewing hide near one of the waterholes, a vulture feeding site and three picnic sites with barbecue facilities.
Weenen’s campsite boasts twelve shady campsites, which accommodate tents and caravans. Each campsite features barbecue facilities with firewood and charcoal for sale.

Seven of the campsites are electrified. The modern ablutions feature hot baths and showers, flush toilets and basins. Weenen Game Reserve also features a fully equipped, self-catering cottage for the convenience of guests.

The distant blue hills and undulating thornveld valleys of KwaZulu-Natal make a superb backdrop for the scenic Weenen Game Reserve. With the Bushmans River flowing through a spectacular gorge in the reserve, Weenen's excellent road system and walking trails, visitors have many scenic and game viewing opportunities as they walk or drive around the reserve.

There is also a fully equipped self contained 5 bed cottage with barbecue facilities and an exclusive picnic site next to a waterhole. The Nyandu Enviromental Tented Camp is situated in a pristine valley alongside the banks of the Nyandu river in the western section of the reserve. Sited under a canopy of acacia trees the camp can accommodate 20 adults or 30 children. A kitchen tent has cooking and washing up facilities as well as a freezer
