Mountain Splendour camping and caravanning resort is located in the spectacular Champagne Valley, Central Drakensberg. It is a family owned and operated resort situated on a farm with dramatic views directly facing the towering peaks of Champagne Castle, Cathkin Peak and Sterkhorn. These mountains are located in the Monks Cowl Reserve that forms part of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park, a World Heritage Site.

We were recently awarded a 4-star grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa which is considered 'Excellent'. Currently, there are only five 5-star or 'Exceptional' camping/caravan resorts in South Africa and we are certainly striving to be accredited into that elite category! Furthemore, we are AA Quality assured.

We cater for all our guests needs by providing spotless communal and private ablutions with constant hot water, spacious, well-shaded sites, each with their own plug point and braai.

Resort facilities also include a swimming pool, 2 tennis courts, volleyball courts, large children's playground, animal farm, darts, table tennis and picnic spots.

The immediate area offers excellent outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting, fishing, quad biking and horse riding. There are two golf courses next door to Mountain Splendour; the 18-hole Championship course at Champagne Sports Resort and the family orientated 9-hole golf course at Monks Cowl Country Club.

Other local amenities include restaurants, supermarkets, an arts and crafts route and the Drakensberg Boys Choir School where regular concerts and festivals are held. Winterton, a quaint village 25km away, caters for all your basic needs and also boasts an extremely interesting and informative Museum. Within an hours drive are game reserves, historical battlefields, the Midlands Meander and good trout fishing areas.

Directions

FROM JOHANNESBURG Take N3 South down Van Reenen’s Pass and through Tugela Toll Plaza Ignore all other Winterton signs and take EXIT 194 Turn right on R74 and go 22km to Winterton Turn left onto R600 to Central Drakensberg Go 24km towards Champagne Castle Turn left onto D19 and follow signs for 1km to Mountain Splendour Alternative Route: (shorter, but road down Oliviershoek Pass in poor condition) Take N3 South to Harrismith. At Harrismith take N5 towards Kestell/Bethlehem. Go 4km and turn left onto R74 towards Bergville/Qwa Qwa (Alternative Route to Durban) Take next left turn (8km) on R74 to Bergville via Sterkfontein Dam and Oliviershoek Pass. Go through Bergville and continue 20km on R74 to Winterton At Winterton turn right at Engen Garage onto R600 to Central Berg (go over the level crossing) Go 24km on R600 towards Champagne Castle Hotel Turn left onto D19 and follow signs for 1km to Mountain Splendour FROM DURBAN Take N3 North to EXIT 179 (Estcourt North/Central Drakensberg) Turn left and go 28km through Loskop and past Injusuti turn off Turn left at R600 to Central Drakensberg Go 12km towards Champagne Castle Turn left onto D19 and travel 1 km to Mountain Splendour
