Kamberg Nature Reserve in the Natal Drakensberg Park is a delightful area with attractive picnic sites near the river and trout dams and many well maintained self guided walks in the area. Accommodation is provided in rest huts, a self-contained cottages as well as in an old farmhouse featuring a lovely rustic cottage and rondavel.

Kamberg nestles in the foothills of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park , its central position ideal for visits to many other well known Berg areas from Lotheni to Giants Castle. Kamberg is a delightful spot in it's own right with three attractive picnic sites near the river and trout dams which provide a relaxing alternative to the scenic attractions of the many well maintained walks in the area.  

Accommodation

Kamberg Camp is an attractive midlands resort nestled in the southern foothills of the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park, surrounded by trout dams, streams and open grassland. There are three picnic sites as well as many scenic self-guided walks.

Kamberg camp provides guests with the option of one six-bed chalet, one five-bed chalet and five two-bed chalets. The self-catering Stillerus cottage accommodates eight guests for those who require peace and solitude. The five two-bed chalets have been extensively renovated and now boast en-suite bathroom facilities and kitchenettes. A communal lounge is also available for the convenience of guests.

Attractions

These self guided trails from the camp, take visitors into the surrounding areas of the 'Little Berg' as well as along the Mooi River. Trout fishing can be enjoyed in the many dams which are open to anglers all year round and in the river during the fly fishing season. Please remember that you must purchase a rod ticket from the camp office before you start fishing. The cost is R50.00 per day to visitors that are staying in the camp and R60.00 to day visitors.

Close to Kamberg are the trophy trout fishing dams of Highmoor which must be booked in advance. Please enquire at the camp office. The new Rock Art Centre showcases the magnificent San paintings in the Game Pass shelter. Community guides take visitors to this shelter on a daily basis.

Fly-fishing is enjoyed all year round in the dams and during the fly fishing season in the Mooi River with trophy fishing available at nearby Highmoor reserve. Local community guides accompany guests to the magnificent rock art shelter in Game Pass, which has some of the most outstanding examples of rock art in the world and is known as the "Rosetta Stone of South African rock art". A San rock art interpretation centre of international standards has been established at Kamberg Camp, together with a take-away facility.

Directions

DIRECTIONS TO KAMBERG NATURE RESERVE Access to the reserve is along a partly tarred road, off the main N3 highway. From the north, turn off at the tollgate at Mooi River, and take the first left turn to Rosetta. This route has approximately 32 km of tar and 9 km of gravel road. From the south, turn off the main highway to Nottingham Road, and travel through Nottingham Road Village to Rosetta. At Rosetta turn left and follow signposts to Kamberg. This route has approximately 32 km of tar and 9 km of gravel road
