Snow in the Drakensberg Mountains

The Drakensberg Mountains see snow for the first time this 2014. The start of the winter season edges closer with the first reports of snow happening in the Drakensberg. TheĀ  Tiffendell the ski resort in the Eastern Cape in the Southern Drakensberg has also experienced snow, with falls having happened on Tuesday and Wednesday. Also Afriski the ski resort in Lesotho has experienced its first snow. Normally snow falls generally only happen from May onwards, so April snow is a bit early which bodes well for a cold winter. The Drakensberg Mountains look spectacular beautifully covered in white snow.

Eastern Cape is continuing to experience snow, however, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that heavy rain is expected over the eastern half of province, especially in places along the coast on Thursday.

Heavier snowfalls are also expected over the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg with even more snow over the Eastern Cape Drakensberg and parts of Lesotho.
