2 KZN Wildlife field rangers helped to save the life of an elderly man who was lost and alone in close to zero temperatures in the Drakensberg on Sunday night. The 85-year-old man was rescued from the Highmoor Reserve and was carried for nearly 2 km back to safety. He is recovering at Northdale hospital since Monday. It seemed that he had tried to follow his daughter and her hiking party, but had taken a wrong turn. At the time the park closed and he had not returned a search was launched. He was found on the Caracal Cave path but did not have any strength and could not walk. The rangers gave him a jacket and gloves and carried him. a very sacred rule of walking in the Drakensberg is to walk in groups and minimum a pair such that these types of things dont happen.
