Welcome to Kwa-Rie Resort, situated in Dundee, midway between Newcastle and Ladysmith, and only 25km from the main highway, this tranquil resort is well placed in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields. Your hosts at the Kwa-rie, Leon and Antionette du Plooy, who have grown up and lived in the area all their lives, will assist you during your stay, and will sincerely go to great lengths to make your stopover a memorable and delightful experience.

The area boasts the largest concentration of battlefields in South Africa, with Rorkes Drift Battlefield as the most famous of the battlefields in the country. White Cairns scattered across the battlefield at the Isandlwana Battlefield site mark the positions of buried British soldiers. The signalling post, Fort Mistake, which was built during the first Anglo Boer War, is one of the many that stretched north to Newcastle. The Cenotaph memorial was built in memory to the many men who died in the First and Second World Wars.

Outdoor adventure trails, are too numerous to list. To name but a few, The Talana Trail which marked the route that the British troops took up Talana Hill, the Black Eagle Hiking Trail which traverses two valleys where kudu, impala and reedbuck can be found, the extremely popular Cannibal Hiking Trail with it’s cannibal caves and hide-outs, as well as where an abundance of game and bird-life flourishes, are all within easy reach.

The Kwa-rie is right in the middle of all this, and offers an excellent base from which to visit these famous historical monuments. At Kwa-rie we can offer you more to see and to do, than anywhere else in KwaZulu-Natal. The Kwa-rie is situated virtually in the centre of Dundee, and the two private dams add to the enchanting and relaxing atmosphere. Our ablution block offers you a true luxury “African experience” with ample hot water, a scullery and laundry, and is reasonably wheel chair friendly. We proudly offer you the “Best ablution facilities” that you can possibly find! Spotless, hygienically clean, spacious and unique! Our caravan and camping sites are large and expansive, with water taps and 15amp electrical connection points servicing every site. Tourists with Motor homes can simply drive in, hook-up, set-up and relax. Caravanners and campers can ‘spread out’ in total comfort without the fear of tripping over your neighbours’ guy ropes.

Canoeing, fantastic fishing as well as horse riding and game viewing nearby are an added diversion for your enjoyment. The Kwa-rie is situated right next to the Dundee Golf Course that also offers squash courts, tennis courts, and the Club boasts a superb restaurant and bar.

An area outside the Lapa is set aside so as to be able to build a great campfire so you can savour and enjoy the great outdoor ambience, with a braai area to accommodate those wishing to rally around the pool and entertainment area.

Our self-catering chalets are fully equipped with bedding, crockery, kitchen and bathroom and TV, and are splendidly placed to offer excellent views of the dams and bird life.
