Vergezient Mountain Retreat - Northern Drakensberg accommodation overlooking Royal Natal National Park and the Amphitheatre

Vergezient Mountain Retreat is situated in the Northern Drakensberg just off the Oliviershoek Pass. Vergezient  is the place for those who would like an old-fashioned kind of a holiday.  Comfortable accommodation, tasty food, wonderful walks, reading near the fire, board games, pleasant company good conversation and peace and quiet.

It is also being developed as a retreat - a place to take stock - a place to discover your Self.

The Vergezient Drakensberg Mountain Retreat, is located on an 800ha farm perched high on a ridge that overlooks the entire northern Drakensberg. From here the views of the Drakensberg, which extend from Cathkin Peak to the northern end of the Malutis are simply spectacular.

Be warned though, the weather is generally not dull. The wind can really blow here, mists thicker than pea soup can envelope you, spectacular summer storms can be intimidating and in winter you may even be snowed in.

So if that does not put you off, you must be part of that select band who love the mountains.Their wildness, freshness and rugged untamed beauty.

In addition to the wonderful views and wild weather, Vergezient Mountain Retreat has other delights in store for you.

The walks and day hikes on the farm were laid out professionally and are superb.

The accommodation, which has an old-fashioned feel, is a pleasure.  Most of the comfortably furnished bedrooms have a view.  The dining-room and enclosed veranda have one of the best views in the northern Drakensberg, and warm fireplaces keep out the chill. 

The food is very good.  Tasty and wholesome food  - cooked with passion.  Their guests love it. 

Unfortunately there is as yet, not much of a garden around the house.  But then as one of the guests said:' why bother, you cannot improve on perfection'.

Vergezient is located some 15 km off the R74 between Bergville and Harrismith and is approximately 3hrs drive from both Johannesburg and Durban.
